There are breathtaking landscapes and interesting historical monuments like Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate and Roses Valley, which is renowned for the Festival of Roses that is held in Mid-May. The so-called valley of roses, Kelaat-M’Gouna in Morocco hosts an annual rose festival in mid-May (usually, the second weekend) when millions of roses are harvested and special events and competitions held. The roses from the valley are famous for the rose water that is produced from them and then becomes the base for perfume.
On our last part of the day, we will also spend time in some of the Berber Villages of Skoura, ‘El Kelaa des M’Gouna’ and ‘Boumalene Dades’. Our overnight stay will be in a great hotel which includes an authentic Moroccan dinner and breakfast.
After breakfast, we will head into the desert to Merzouga for a camel ride. The camp we visit is more secluded and not busy. Merzouga is the location for one of the largest wind-blown dunes in Morrocco, Erg Chebbi.
In our way to Merzouga, we will visit many Berber villages. We will move along from Todra through many Berber villages inluding Tinjdad, Mella’b, and Rissani. You have your choice of where we will stop for lunch. In Rissani you can experience a local specialty, ” Madfoune ” or the Berber Pizza.
We will make our thanks to Merzouga where we will leaving our luggage in a safe place for the night. Then, we will head out to the desert riding camels for 1hr 30min which will take us to a Berber camp in the middle of the dunes of Erg Chebbi. The dunes stretch nearly 20 km long and 5-8km wide. These are the highest dunes in North Africa, reaching 2,395′ in elevation. We should arrive by sunset and get settled into our Berber tents. These accommodations do include a restroom, kitchen, beds, blankets and cushions for your stay. We can also enjoy a fire under the stars and play traditional Berber drums.
In the early morning, our camel driver will wake you up to enjoy the sunrise over the dunes and return back to camp for breakfast and packing to start our last day heading to Fez.
During the winter season, when the daylight hours are shorter, we will start our day before sunrise, beginning the camel trek to catch sunrise over the desert or start our journey with our vehicle directly from the camp .
When we depart Merzouga for Fez, we will pass through many cities and villages: Erfoud, Errachidia, Ziz Valley, Meditlt, Cedar Forests of Azrou, Ifrane, and Fez.
