A day of adventure will include the exploration of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Medina (city) of Essaouira and Portuguese city of Mogador. You will learn about the process of how Argan oil is manufactured, visit the market in Skala du Port, the Mellah (Jewish quarter), meet jewelry souks and shop at local crafter’s markets. This day trip includes lunch and your choice to ride motorized quads or camels or horses in a pre-arranged side excursion in the small dune village of Diabat. Â
This day trip has a lot of everything, for everyone:Â
– Morning: Depart from Marrakech early in the morning, around 7 AM, to make the most of your day in Essaouira. The journey by car takes around 2.5 to 3 hours.
– Mid-Morning: Upon arrival in Essaouira, meet with your tour guide and start with a walking tour of the Medina (old town), a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the Skala du Port, a seafront bastion with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the old Portuguese harbor.
– Lunch: Enjoy a delicious seafood lunch at one of the local restaurants near the port or in the Medina. Essaouira is known for its fresh seafood, so don’t miss out on the local specialties.
– Afternoon: Continue your guided tour by exploring the historical and cultural sites such as the Moulay Hassan square, the Jewish Quarter “Derb Lealouj,” and the vibrant souks. Visit the wood workshops where artisans craft beautiful items from thuya wood, a local specialty.
– Late Afternoon: Take a stroll along the sandy beach, feel the ocean breeze, and maybe even take a camel ride along the shore. If time allows, you might also want to visit the art galleries and boutique shops that Essaouira is known for.
– Evening: Depart from Essaouira in the early evening, around 5 PM, for the return trip to Marrakech. Arrive back in Marrakech around 8 PM, depending on traffic and stops.
This itinerary allows for a full day of exploration and enjoyment in Essaouira while ensuring you return to Marrakech in the evening. Of course, timing may vary based on your preferences and the specific activities you’d like to prioritize.
